Human Service Specialists: Have a specialized set of skills you would be interested in sharing or willing to acquire a set or skills to share? Volunteers lend skills to assist shelter guests in completing tasks while staying at shelter. This can be in the form of signing up for food stamps, learning how to set up an email account, walking a guest through the interview process, obtaining identification, or even offering haircuts.
Where To Start
Weekend Bagged Lunch Program: Like to contribute, but your week is very full, and you only have time on the weekends? Volunteers provide much needed lunches to our community neighbors who might be food insecure. We also need volunteers to help distribute these lunches and build a connection amongst our community. This program impacts the lives of those who might not otherwise seek assistance from some of our other programs.
Projects : Like having a task to complete and you consider yourself to be a “worker bee”. We often have projects at BES where an extra set of hands are appreciated.
Are You Thinking Of Volunteering?
A community needs all sorts of folks to thrive. There are many ways to get involved and make a positive impact in our community.
Community HMIS Walk-in Site: Like organizing or would like the opportunity to meet new folks in the community? Volunteers assist in receiving street neighbors and coordinating phone calls at Coordinated Entry & Homeless Services Day Center. Located in the St. John's Windish Church, 617 E. 4th Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015. Open Monday through Thursday, 1PM-5PM.
Shelter Nights: Have a family recipe you want to share with others or willing to share in conversation and company with our shelter guests? Volunteers help create delicious meals, ensure our shelter guests receive showers, assist staff with registration, and help create community with our shelter guests.
Without volunteers like you, BES would not be here today.
Step 2.) Trainings:We ask all new and returning volunteers and groups to attend our Volunteer Trainings to review BES policies and procedures. We utilize Signup Genius to organize trainings and to schedule volunteers. Training scheduling can be found here. If none of the listed dates work for you, please let us know.
Step 3.) Schedule Your Volunteer Service!
Thank You for your dedication to serve our community.
Volunteers under 18 years of age, must have legal guardian present to volunteer on site. Age restrictions set based on volunteer duties.
Step 1.) Application & Waiver:We ask all volunteers to complete the Volunteer Application Form and COVID Waiver. You may either bring your paperwork with you to training or your first shift of service. This can be found here.
If your group wishes to serve on one of our shelter nights (November 15th through April 15th), you may find our open nights for groups highlighted in green on our Shelter Calendar here. If there is a night that works for your group, we ask the volunteer coordinator of that group to sign up for the slots their group will be covering on Signup Genius. If you are a new group or volunteer coordinator, please contact our Operations Team at firstname.lastname@example.org so a mentor can be arranged on your first night of service. Signup Genius for Shelter Nights may be found here.
Signup Genius for our Weekend Bagged Lunch Program may be found here. If you are a new group signing up for the Weekend Bagged Lunch Program with questions, please contact Sally Knukel at email@example.com.
